At the Carpet Critic we are working to build the best list of local carpet cleaning services. We can not of course test every cleaner in the city but instead we research them for you. Using our industry knowledge, we can tell you if a company is full of hot air or seems to be legit. We look through the information available and tell you if we ourselves would give the company a shot. So, what is the verdict with Bill The Butler? Keep reading and we will let you know if we would hire this company.
Method of Cleaning
There are lots of methods out there but only one that we recommend for residential carpet cleaning. That method is Hot Water Extraction, often referred to as Steam Cleaning. This method is recommended by most mills and is capable of dealing with the high soil loads that a residential carpet is bound to have. Other methods may work decently for frequent commercial cleaning, but not for residential work. Bill The Butler does use the Steam Cleaning method and also uses truck mounted equipment. This is good because truck mounted machines outclass portable equipment and leave your carpet drier. Thumbs up on the method used by Bill.
Other Cleaning Services
We like to see specialization in floor and upholstery care. A company should offer complimentary services but not every home service imaginable. This is especially true for smaller companies where a technician would be asked to do to many things and never master a specific service. Bill The Butler offers just about the right amount of complimentary services although I do not like the venture into things like yard work and maid service. I would like to see a little more professionalism as a carpet cleaner. Overall, this does not negatively affect my opinion of the company though.
I like to see up front pricing and clear definition of what is included. Bill has up front pricing, that is for sure, but I would like to see exactly what is included in their standard service. Does it include vacuuming, furniture moving, etc. Overall, there prices seem reasonable and competitive. Not overly cheap which is a warning sign of bait and switch companies. Thumbs up on the pricing even if it is a bit vague.
A website shows how professional a company is. Not a necessity, but a clean and professional website makes a company look better in my eyes. It needs work Bill, that’s all Im going to say.
The most important thing to check out is a companies reviews. My go to source is Yelp, but I will check others as well. Yelp reviews seem to be more accurate because they are harder to manipulate. As of the writing of this article, the company had two reviews and both of them were five stars. This is good but the reviews were 2 years old with no recent activity.
After Yelp, I checked the BBB page. The company is not accredited, but an accredited company is only a company that pays the BBB (a for profit company) to carry their logo. The BBB still tracks complaints. Bill The Butler had no complaints.
So after all of this, what is my opinion? Would I hire this company? There are a few things that I would like clarified but YES, I would hire this company. Just be sure to have the owner specify what is included in the base cleaning price. They seem to be an honest company with a good track record so they are worth trying.
