The good thing about the carpe cleaning industry is that there are a number of great “Mom & Pop” type companies around. You tend to get better service from a small company but it does not guarantee a good job. Nelson Carpet Cleaning is a small company serving the Memphis, TN area. Are they worth hiring or should you pass them by? Let’s find out.
Method of Cleaning
What's in this article...
There are a lot of carpet cleaning methods on the market, but the one that works the best for residential situations is Steam Cleaning or Hot Water Extraction. It is the only method recommended by most carpet mills because it is both safe and effective. I feel other dry cleaning methods are best left for commercial carpets that are cleaned often. Nelson Carpet Cleaning using the Steam Cleaning method and uses truck mounted machinery. This is important because these gas engine powered machines produce more heat, vacuum and water pressure. They allow operators to get your carpet cleaner and drier than portable machinery. Thumbs up for the carpet cleaning method and system.
Other Cleaning Services
Some companies like to offer every service under the sun. The result is that they never master any individual one. In my opinion, carpet cleaners should just offer the basic complimentary services like upholstery cleaning and hard floor cleaning. I even frown on air duct cleaning because it is a service that is better suited to HVAC companies. Nelson Carpet Cleaning offers the basic services that I first mentioned, so thumbs up.
Prices
Prices for carpet cleaning can vary greatly depending on the level of service being offered. When shopping for carpet cleaning, the thing that you should keep in mind is that you get what you pay for. Avoid companies that are claiming to be offering a super cheap price. You can not clean a carpet for $10 a room and make money. A carpet cleaner would go broke quickly at that rate unless they had hidden charges.
You should also try to find a comply that is up front with their pricing and that includes everything needed for a basic cleaning gin the price. Nelson Carpet Cleaning clearly states what is included but is a little vague about actual prices. From what I can gather from their Angie’s List reviews though, their prices seem to be on the higher side of average. Thumbs up overall.
Website Overview
A company website should be professional and should contain factual information and statements. Their website is accurate and gives you a good amount of information but it could benefit from a refresh. I would give it a B rating but it does not turn me off completely.
Reviews
This is probably the single best factor in judging a company, the reviews. Just as important as the reviews is the source of the review. Many sites are easy to “game” and you can tell that companies write their own reviews. The most trusted source for reviews, in my opinion, is Yelp. They have a tough filter that screens out reviews if there is a chance that it is fake. This often ends up screening out legit reviews, but overall it works well. As of the time of the writing of this article, Nelson Carpet Cleaning had 15 reviews with all of them being 5 stars. The reviews spoke of quality and commitment to leaving behind happy customers. Big thumbs up here.
My Final Opinion
Taking everything into consideration, I would definitely consider hiring this company if I needed carpet cleaning in Memphis. It seems like a good owner operated business that aims to please their clients.
